In March 2024, France introduced the PECAN (Prise en Charge Anticipée Numérique) program, a fast-track reimbursement scheme for digital health applications and remote monitoring systems. Modeled after Germany’s DiGA approach, PECAN aims to provide access to digital therapeutics for 60 million French citizens covered by mandatory health insurance. To qualify, solutions must obtain a European CE mark, demonstrate potential clinical benefits, and comply with interoperability and data security standards set by the French Digital Health Agency. This initiative seeks to integrate digital health solutions into the healthcare system, offering an alternative to traditional pharmaceutical treatments, especially for chronic conditions like diabetes, insomnia, and depression.
